In the dispute over the Iranian oil tankers set in Gibraltar for more than a month now, according to media reports, the US has bargained for release at the last second. The US broadcaster CNN and the daily newspaper „Gibraltar Chronicle“ reported that today.

A spokesman for the Gibraltar Attorney General has filed a petition from the US Department of Justice in the morning before the Supreme Court of Gibraltar. Originally it was expected that the Supreme Court of Gibraltar would decide today whether the „Grace 1“ would be released, CNN reported. The „Gibraltar Chronicle“, however, wrote that the release was imminent.

The United Kingdom imposed a tanker loaded with Iranian oil on 4 July in the UK overseas territory of Gibraltar for violating EU sanctions on the Syria boycott. On July 19, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) stopped the British oil tanker „Stena Impero“ in the Strait of Hormuz. A proposed by Iran exchange of the two tankers rejected the new British government so far.
