Malta will take in the 40 refugees from the rescue ship „Alan Kurdi“ until people are distributed to other EU states. That announced head of government Joseph Muscat yesterday on the short message service Twitter.

The German government and the EU Commission had agreed on the distribution of all persons to the member states.

The German aid organization Sea-Eye had called on Malta to have the rescue ship put on. After Italy had banned the entrance, the ship took course in Malta and lay there about 24 nautical miles (about 45 kilometers) off the coast.
