In the beauty contest Miss Venezuela will no longer be called the model dimensions of the candidates in the future. The organizers of the competition justified this yesterday with a deliberate departure from „stereotypes“.

„The beauty of the woman does not depend on 90-60-90,“ said Communications Director Gabriela Isler before tomorrow’s competition. „It’s measured by the talent of every single woman.“

So far, the model dimensions of the candidates were always called at the event.

For a long time, a chest circumference of 90 centimeters, a waist circumference of 60 centimeters and a hip circumference of 90 centimeters were considered the ideal of beauty. In order to achieve this, women who want to become beauty queens undergo drastic diets – and not infrequently also cosmetic surgery.

Organizers are afraid of power failure

Beauty pageants are particularly popular in Venezuela and often a springboard for worldwide fame. In the past, seven Miss Universe and six Miss World came from the South American country.

Tomorrow, 24 candidates compete against each other in the capital Caracas for the title of Miss Venezuela.

The competition takes place in the midst of a severe political and economic crisis in the country. Again and again it came in recent months to nationwide power outages.

For the organizers of the beauty contest it is a horror idea that could fail during the competition in Caracas the power: Due to lack of funds, there is no emergency plan for a blackout, as communication director Isler said.
