China and the US have completed the latest round of their trade talks with no visible progress. After the end of the meeting today, there was no direct opinion from any side.

The US delegation led by Finance Minister Steven Mnuchin and Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer arrived in Shanghai yesterday. On the Chinese side, negotiations were led by Deputy Prime Minister Liu He.

It was the first direct trade talks between the two largest economies since the negotiations failed in May.

At the end of June, Trump and China’s Party and Party leader Xi Jinping had agreed on a „ceasefire“ in their trade war and resumption of talks on the sidelines of the G20 summit of major economies in Osaka, Japan.

The trade war between the two states has been going on for over a year. Triumphs were originally triggered by Trump’s anger at China exporting far more to the US than vice versa. He calls for elimination of market barriers, criticizing copyright infringement, compulsory technology transfer to US companies operating in China, and government subsidies.
