France does not want to be pressured by US President Donald Trump on the planned digital tax. The Ministry of Finance in Paris said the tax was in line with international agreements.

„Countries are sovereign in tax matters. It is therefore not appropriate to use trade measures to attack a sovereign state. „The digital tax was passed today in the Senate in Paris.

Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire is planning a 3% tax on the turnover generated in France. That should bring the Treasury 500 million euros per year. The tax is directed against larger companies with a minimum turnover of 750 million euros.

This includes many US providers such as Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon. Trump wants to prevent them from paying taxes separately in France. The President ordered an audit because of this, said US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer yesterday. According to an insider, this may cause the US to impose new tariffs or other trade restrictions.
