The French Ministry of Defense has confirmed that anti-tank missiles found in a Libyan military base belong to France. The rockets were intended for the self-defense of a French unit that collected information on terrorists in Libya, the ministry said today. According to them, they originally came from the USA and were no longer usable.
In part, it confirmed a report by the US New York Times newspaper. According to this, four Javelin rockets were discovered in Gharian, some 90 kilometers south of Tripoli.
The find sparked discussion about foreign ownership in the conflict. The United Nations-backed government in Tripoli had previously accused France of supporting the powerful General Chalifa Haftar. Paris rejected the allegations. The rockets found were not given to Libyan fighters.
