More than six years after a spectacular diamond robbery at the Brussels airport, the supporter of the crime has been sentenced to five years in prison. The Brussels Criminal Court saw it today as proven that the multiple convicted Frenchman Marc Bertoldi, although not directly to the raid, but was involved in planning the act significantly.

Policemen disguised and heavily armed robbers had raced in February 2013 with cars and blue lights on the runway of Brussels Airport and had looted 120 packages of gemstones worth around 38 million euros. The whole thing lasted only about ten minutes. 19 other suspects were acquitted in May 2018 for lack of evidence.

The lawsuit against Bertoldi was negotiated separately at the request of his lawyer because the Frenchman was initially tried in another case in his own country.

Against the collective acquittal for the other accused the public prosecutor’s office had appealed. According to a lawyer, the appeal will begin at the end of the year.
