US President Donald Trump has sharply attacked the New York Times for reporting on American cyberattacks against Russia.
He accused the paper via Twitter in the night on today a „virtual act of high treason“ before. The newspaper previously reported that the US had begun to „make digital interventions in the Russian power grid as a warning to President Vladimir Putin.“ Citing unnamed government officials, it said that the US government is demonstrating a more aggressive use of cyber tools. Among other things, it is responding to reports of Russian disinformation campaigns and hacker attacks.
All-round strike against „corrupt media“
„Believe it, the failing New York Times has just come up with a story that the United States is significantly increasing its cyberattacks against Russia,“ Trump wrote. „It’s a virtual act of high treason in a once-big-time newspaper that’s desperate for a big story, some story, even if it’s bad for our country …“
Trump also took the Beericht as a reason to rave in a second tweet against „our corrupt media today“. „You do or write whatever, without the least thought of consequences!“ Wrote the US President. „These are real cowards and undoubtedly THE ENEMIES OF THE PEOPLE!“
