Following the defeat in the EU election, the Italian five-star movement wants to take care of a new organization. „For years we have said that we do not need a political organization. But an organization is necessary, „said the five-star boss and Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio today in a radio interview.
„We need an organization with roles, responsibilities and projects. This will be our work for the next few months. I want to build an organization with people who can respond to the needs of the Italians, „said Di Maio.
Among the political demands of the five-star movement is the introduction of a statutory minimum wage per hour. In addition, the five-star movement wants to work for a reduction of the control pressure.
Criticism of Di Maio
The five-star movement won only 17.1 percent of the vote in the European elections – about half as much as coalition partner Lega – and 6.2 million fewer votes than in the 2018 general election. Party critics Di Maios claimed he was wearing too many Roles in the government.
The 32-year-old is not only party leader and deputy prime minister, but also industrial and labor minister. Because of his many commitments Di Maio the party and the election campaign, too little time, the critics say.
In addition, the movement is too little present on the local level. This testifies to the disappointing result of the five-star movement in the municipal elections held on 26 May in 3,654 Italian municipalities. The five-star movement won the mayoral stitch elections only in the southern Italian city of Campobasso.
