Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the spiritual head of Iran, has today condemned the Middle East peace plan currently being promoted by US presidential aide Jared Kushner as „a great scam for the Islamic world“.
The conference in Bahrain, scheduled for the end of June, at which Kushner wants to clarify the economic aspects of his plan, is to promote a „treacherous, devious plan for Palestine“ sold by the US as a „century plan,“ said Khamenei in Tehran.
Khamenei for referendum
Khamenei distanced himself from „previous Arab leaders who believed that Jews should be driven into the sea.“ That was „not the view of the Islamic Republic of Iran,“ said Khamenei. He renewed Tehran’s proposal to hold a referendum to settle the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.
This was to be attended by „Jews, Christians and Jewish residents of Palestine and Palestinian refugees“. In this referendum should be decided on the form of government. Until then, the „struggle of the Palestinian nation“ must continue.
Khamenei warns Saudis and Bahrain
Khamenei made his speech to the Id-al-Fitr festival at the end of the month of fasting Ramadan at the mausoleum of his predecessor Ayatollah Khomeini. He carried a rifle with him. He warned his Arab neighbors, namely Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, against supporting the US plan for the Middle East. This would put them in a „morass“ and endanger their future, said the spiritual head of Iran.
The plan pushed by Kushner was already rejected by the Palestinians. Since the government of US President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in December 2017, the Palestinians put their contacts with Washington on hold. The details of the Kushner Plan are not yet known. Trump’s son-in-law wants to present his ideas in more detail at the conference in Bahrain on 25 and 26 June.
