Protests against Albania’s government have sparked heated protests and police in the capital Tirana. According to the Interior Ministry, ten policemen and three other people were injured last night.
The demonstrators demanded a resignation of the socialist leader Edi Rama. Some of them stormed police barriers near parliament buildings, threw bangers, smoke bombs and stones. The security forces used tear gas and water cannons.
For months there have been regular demonstrations against Rama. The opposition accuses its government of corruption and links to organized crime and calls for the formation of a transitional government to organize new elections.
