The Mexican authorities have delivered a drug lord to the United States. Jose Antonio Torres Marrufo aka „Jaguar“ are accused of serious violent crimes, the US Department of Justice said yesterday (local time). He is considered one of the leading figures of the Sinaloa cartel.

His former boss Joaquin „El Chapo“ Guzman was found guilty of all charges in February in a mammoth trial in New York and has now been jailed for life. The Sinaloa Cartel is considered the most powerful drug cartel in Mexico and is said to smuggle cocaine, marijuana and other drugs into the US in large quantities.

Marrufo on suspicion of murder

Torres Marrufo was reported to have been charged in April 2012 with Guzman and other US cartel members. He should appear today in federal court in El Paso (Texas).

He is accused of causing the kidnapping and murder of a Texas man in September 2009. The cartel blamed them for losing a load of around 300 kilos of marijuana confiscated by the US Border Police.

The man’s mutilated body was discovered in the Mexican border town of Juarez. In May 2010, according to the indictment at a wedding ceremony in Ciudad Juarez on Marrufo’s orders the bridegroom – a US citizen – whose brother and uncle were abducted, was tortured and murdered.
