Huawei boss Ren Zhengfei considers China’s reprisals against Apple unlikely. „Firstly, that will not happen, and if that happens, I’ll be the first to protest,“ he told Bloomberg.

The Huawei founder acknowledged that the export restrictions imposed by US President Donald Trump’s administration could undermine the two-year lead that the Chinese network equipment and handset manufacturer has built over the competition. However, he emphasized that Huawei would either increase its chip supply or find alternatives to stay ahead of smartphones and 5G.

The US blacklisted Huawei a few days ago, banning US companies from doing business with the company. Trump accuses the group that its products can be used to spy on the Chinese state. Huawei rejects that.
