Again and again attacks on tourists

The attack was the second on tourists near the famous pyramids within half a year. In December, an explosive device hit a bus carrying 15 Vietnamese tourists, of which at least three were killed.

In the holiday country Egypt there are always such attacks on tourists. The travel industry had already suffered after the fall of President Mohammed Mursi by the military in 2013 and mass protests in the country, but has recovered in recent months.

The Egyptian state has been fighting Islamic extremists on the Sinai Peninsula for years. Sometimes other parts of the country were affected by the uprising and the extremists targeted Christians or tourists there.
