Because the nose landing gear could not be extended, the pilot of a passenger plane at the airport of the Myanmar city Mandalay had to land surprisingly „artfully“. This was reported by the aviation authority of the country.
The pilot had brought the plane only on the rear wheels to the ground. The plane then dumped on its bow and skidded over the runway until it came to a stop. Thanks to the successful landing maneuver, all 89 people on board remained unhurt.
Pilot celebrated as a hero
Before landing, the pilot found that the front landing gear of the machine could not extend, said the airline Myanmar National Airlines. He therefore stayed longer in the air to use fuel and reduce the weight. The captain finally landed the aircraft without major damage to the aircraft.
According to the aviation authority, the pilot also works as an instructor. In social networks, he was celebrated as a hero. The Embraer 190 aircraft was traveling from Yangon to Mandalay with 82 passengers and seven crew members. The Department of Transportation announced an investigation into the incident.
