The UN Security Council remains unable to agree on the demand for a ceasefire in Libya. The diplomats said yesterday after an emergency meeting of the most important UN body in New York. Accordingly, the US and Russia are opposed to the British draft resolution, which has been contested for days.

At the meeting, UNS envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, briefed the 15 members of the Security Council on the situation. He warned diplomats of a further increase in violence over the coming weekend. Accordingly, the armed units approach the residential areas of the Libyan capital Tripoli. Also appear to reinforce on both sides.

Libyan General Chalifa Haftar launched an offensive in Tripoli at the beginning of April, where the UN-backed government of Prime Minister Fajis al-Sarradsch is based. The general supports the internationally recognized parliament in Tobruk, which in turn does not recognize the government in Tripoli. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 200 people have been killed and more than 900 injured in the fierce fighting.
