The Jökulsarlon Lagoon in the south of Iceland is a popular tourist destination. Every year, many people visit the place where James Bond once raced across the ice in his car.
A group of tourists now experienced a rare natural spectacle up close. A few meters away, a large section of the Breiðamerkjökull glacier broke off. The chunks of ice triggered a meter-high wave that endangered the hikers. They were able to get to safety at higher altitudes. There are no reports of injuries. Her mountain guide Stephan Mantler filmed the natural spectacle.
In 2018, around two million visitors visited the island in northern Europe, with just under 330,000 inhabitants.
