Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has reacted angrily to statements made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the attack on two mosques in New Zealand. Morrison announced Wednesday that it would introduce the Turkish ambassador to Canberra. He described Erdogan’s statements as „very offensive“.

Erdogan had condemned the attacks in the Turkish election campaign as attacks on Islam and also on Turkey. At the same time he threatened Australians with anti-Muslim sentiment the same fate as the troops of the Ententemächte from Great Britain and Empire countries such as Australia, New Zealand and France in the First World War at the Battle of Gallipoli against an especially Ottoman force had happened.

At the Battle of Gallipoli between February 1915 and January 1916, more than 8,000 Australians and more than 2,000 New Zealanders died. Overall, more than 100,000 soldiers were killed on both sides. The Ottoman troops supported by Germany and Austria-Hungary won.

Morrison on Erdogan’s Comment: „offensive“
„I find that a very insulting comment, of course I do, and I will call the Turkish Ambassador to a meeting with me today to discuss this matter,“ Morrison told ABC.
