In Lindesnes on the south coast of Norway, the first underwater restaurant in Europe opened yesterday evening. The building juts diagonally out of the water. The dining room for 40 guests is located five meters below sea level and opens to a large picture window overlooking the sea.

The brothers Gaute and Stig Ubostad have invested in the construction of the restaurant with the name „Under“ 70 million Norwegian kroner (7.2 million euros). Behind the design is the architectural firm Snöhetta, which also designed the Oslo Opera House.

The restaurant experience is not cheap. The 17-course menu will cost around 2,250 crowns (230 euros) per guest, said the owners. Nevertheless, the „Under“ is fully booked until September. 7,500 people have ordered a table so far. Ten cooks from different countries work in the kitchen.
