„Russia often uses pernicious tactics against the EU and the US, threatening our unity,“ the minister said.
As Perry said, the United States believes that Russia’s actions „continue its long-term strategy to strengthen its influence on the European energy market with political goals.“
“Russia uses hybrid tools to gain influence, including the use of infrastructure projects to spread harmful influence, misinformation and political erosion. “Nord Stream – 2” and “Turkish Stream” serve this tactic, ”he added.
The minister stressed that the US administration „strongly opposes the“ Nord Stream – 2. “
“Of course, Russian gas can and should remain part of the European energy balance, but our goal is to support European efforts to minimize dependence on a single supplier and the ability of this supplier to use it as a lever of pressure for political advantage,” he said.
Earlier, Perry said the US is considering additional sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 project.
As noted in the Kremlin, the possible imposition of sanctions is unacceptable.
On March 12, the European Parliament voted in favor of the resolution, which contains proposals to stop the Nord Stream 2.
