In contrast to other countries, the US Air Traffic Authority does not ban the launch of Boeing aircraft of the recently crashed Type 737 Max 8. However, it does ask the aircraft manufacturer to make changes.
Following the crash of a Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft in Ethiopia, the US aviation authority FAA is requesting the aircraft manufacturer to make modifications to this type of aircraft. Changes to the software and the MCAS control system are necessary, among other things, the FAA said. However, she did not impose a start-up ban on machines of this type: „This investigation has just begun and so far we have no data to draw conclusions or take action,“ the agency said.
An Ethiopian Airlines machine had crashed on Sunday morning shortly after the start of Addis Ababa towards Nairobi. All 149 passengers and eight crew members were killed. According to the airline, the pilot reported problems and asked for permission to turn around. A short time later, the machine crashed.
It is already the second accident within half a year with the aircraft type. China, as well as Ethiopia and Indonesia, therefore, ordered that all of the country’s Boeing 737 Max 8 have to stay grounded.
Boeing said it would support the investigation of the causes of the crash. According to the company, more than 370 machines of this type were delivered to 47 customers.
The company’s stock partially recouped its losses during the day. Initially trading at more than 13 percent at the start of US trading, Boeing’s shares closed at 5.4 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial still lagged well behind the other indices due to Boeing’s historic price slump.
