On the Indonesian tourist island of Bali, tourists and locals need 24 hours without mobile internet.
Because of the Hindu holiday Nyepi („Day of silence“), all telecoms providers were instructed to turn off their mobile data networks from morning to Friday morning, the Indonesian Ministry of Communications said today.
At the same time, the traffic is to be completely rested for 24 hours at the airport of the island’s capital, Denpasar. With the „Day of Silence“, the Hindu New Year is rung in Bali. Many of the locals will probably stay in their own homes.
In Bali, the vast majority of the population is of Hindu belief – in general, Muslims are clearly in the majority in Indonesia. With more than 200 million believers, the island state is the most populous Muslim country in the world.
