On the hiking trails of the Italian tourist region Cinque Terre bathing bans should prevail in the future. Anyone who does not compete with proper footwear, must reckon with fines of 50 to 2,500 euros, said the National Park in the Ligurian region according to Italian media. Reason are the many injuries due to unsuitable footwear.

The victims would often have to be brought elaborately with helicopters from the park, quoted media at the weekend park director Patrizio Scarpellini. Many travelers underestimated the hikes and said they were on the beach.

The flow of tourists in the picturesque villages on the cliffs, which are connected by a hiking trail, has been steadily increasing. Especially cruise tourists who dock in the nearby port of La Spezia visit the small towns in summer. The measures against Flipflopträger including penalties should not apply immediately to the season, only the visitors should be fully informed, Scarpellini was quoted.
