A brother of Strasbourg assassin Cherif Chekatt was arrested yesterday after an „alarming“ Facebook message. The 38-year-old Malek Chekatt had been taken into custody in Strasbourg, was reported by French investigators. As the Strasbourg newspaper „Les Dernieres Nouvelles d ‚Alsace“ reported on its website, posted the brother of the Christmas market assassin to a photo that shows him heavily armed, attack threats.
The 29-year-old Chekatt, a Frenchman with Algerian roots, shot at passers-by near the Strasbourg Christmas Market on December 11 and attacked them with a knife. Five people died.
After a two-day police search, Chekatt was shot dead by the police. He had sworn allegiance to the jihadist militia Islamic State (IS) before his act.
