For the vast majority of Venezuelans, food supplies are uncertain, according to a recent study. 80 percent of households are threatened with „food insecurity“ because of their financial plight, according to a study by three universities in the crisis state. Every second household in Venezuela is affected by poverty.

According to the scientists, this means an increase of ten percent within three years. Only half of the Venezuelan children and adolescents go to school on a regular basis, such as the central university and the colleges Simon Bolivar and Andres Bello. Reasons for this are the precarious supply with water and food as well as missing means of transport and power outages. According to the study, around a quarter of households need no running water and regularly work for several hours a day without electricity.
Four people killed

Venezuela has been suffering from a severe economic crisis for a long time, in addition to a political power struggle between head of state Nicolas Maduro and self-proclaimed transitional president Juan Guaido.

On Saturday, a showdown between the government and the opposition over aid supplies from abroad escalated. Four people were killed in clashes with security forces on the border with Brazil. There was also violence on the border with Colombia, hundreds of people were injured. Guaido’s plan to push aid across borders, against Maduro’s wishes, failed because of resistance from government security forces.
