After the summit in Hanoi, North Korea has rejected statements by US President Donald Trump on the failure of the negotiations. Pyongyang has submitted a „realistic proposal“ to the US delegation and has not called for a complete lifting of sanctions, North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho said today, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.

North Korea is prepared to close the Yongbyon nuclear power plant if the US in return takes back part of the sanctions.

The summit, which was associated with high expectations, was prematurely ended on Thursday without any result. Trump said the meeting was broken off mainly because of a dispute over sanctions. Kim demanded that the sanctions be lifted completely. „We could not do that,“ said the US president. An originally scheduled lunch and the signing of a joint statement were removed from the agenda at short notice.
