The Dutch customs has secured 90,000 bottles of Russian vodka on the way to North Korea. The illegal cargo was discovered on a ship owned by the Chinese company Cosco Shipping in the port of Rotterdam, it said yesterday. The ship had been loaded in Hamburg and arrived in Rotterdam on Thursday. Vodka exports fall under UN sanctions against North Korea.

The 90,000 bottles were confiscated on Friday by order of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation. The newspaper „Algemeen Dagblad“ reported that the high-proof wholesale shipment was destined directly for the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and the military leadership of the internationally isolated country. The Dutch customs did not confirm that.
