The cases go back to the Obama administration: In the US hundreds of children and adolescents have been sexually molested. Above all, employees should have behaved „disgustingly“. The authorities have around 6000 complaints.

The attacks are said to have occurred over a four-year period: US authorities have received nearly 6,000 complaints of sexual abuse of migrant children in government-funded housing, according to figures released on Tuesday. Many of the allegations are directed against employees of the facilities.

Democrat MEP Ted Deutch published the figures of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, where the ORR is based, at a congressional hearing on the Trump government’s forced separation of migrant families at the border. The data also go back to the time of the previous government under Barack Obama.

„The ministry has a lot of questions to answer on how to protect those in need of protection from such sexual assault in the future,“ said Ted Dutch after the congressional hearing on Twitter. „This behavior is unacceptable, it is disgusting,“ he told the news website Axios, which had first reported on it.

Inappropriate contact of employees
From October 2014 to July 2018, 4556 complaints were received by the Office for the Relocation of Refugees (ORR). 1303 more were received by the Ministry of Justice, including 178 cases of alleged sexual abuse by staff in facilities.

The reported cases included complaints about inappropriate touch. Supervisors are said to have shown minors pornographic videos. In some cases there is talk of misconduct among children and adolescents.

Representatives of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs emphasized that most of the allegations had not been substantiated. They also defended their care of migrant children.
