An unjustly convicted man who spent 39 years in prison in California receives millions in compensation.

The city of Simi Valley agreed with Craig Coley on a $ 21 million (approximately € 19 million) compensation payment, according to a weekend statement from the authorities. The city avoided that it comes to the process.

Coley was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1978 for a double murder of his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend and four-year-old son. He always assured that he was innocent. A DNA test finally showed that he could not have committed the crime.

Coley was released in November 2017. California Governor Jerry Brown pardoned him with immediate effect. The state authorities also paid him around $ 2 million.
