The South Korean technology giant Samsung yesterday unveiled a foldable device that can transform from a smartphone into a tablet. The Galaxy Fold is a „unique luxury device“ that promises a „next generation experience,“ said Samsung executive Justin Denison at the presentation in San Francisco. Multitasking will be possible on the tablet screen in the future – three apps could run side by side.
The Galaxy Fold will come from the end of April in the trade and cost just under 2,000 dollars (1,750 euros). Samsung hopes the device will boost the weakening smartphone market. Many customers now use their devices longer and are waiting for innovations.
Samung struggles with Apple for premium segment
At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas at the beginning of the year, the Chinese start-up company Royole presented its smartphone FlexPai, which folded in its pocket and unfolded is as big as a tablet. In China and the US, the device is already on the market for about $ 1,300.
Samsung is now the first major manufacturer to bring a foldable device into stores. The South Korean company fights against the US technology group Apple for the premium segment of the market.
