An Egyptian ship, which had rescued 75 refugees in the Mediterranean about ten days ago, is still not allowed to dock in Tunisia. The aid organization Red Crescent said yesterday. A representative of the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior simply said that the refugees wanted to be taken in „by a European country“.
The Egyptian ship „Maridive 601“ had taken the Libyan-launched refugees into international waters off the Tunisian coast at the end of May. A Red Crescent team in the Tunisian city of Zarzis has delivered relief supplies to the people on the ship, some of whom are ill. The captain asked the Tunisian authorities several days ago to be allowed to dock in the port of Zarzis, which he was previously denied.
Many refugees are trying to get to Europe via the Mediterranean from Libya. In the dangerous crossing, it always comes back to deadly calamities.
