Prosecutor Nestor Martinez said the liberated women were picked up in the Colombian town of Cucuta, just off the Venezuelan border, and taken to the capital, Bogota. There they were forced to prostitution and had only 15 minutes of free time per day. In pregnancies, a doctor appointed by the tormentors had abortions.
Every day thousands of refugees arrive in the Colombian border town of Cucuta due to the desolate economic situation in Venezuela. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimates that around 2.3 million Venezuelans have left the country in the face of economic crisis, hyperinflation, lack of food and medicines and political persecution.
