Following the discovery of 39 alleged Vietnamese bodies in a truck in the UK, the Hanoi government has strongly condemned human trafficking. Human trafficking is a „serious crime,“ a spokeswoman for the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry said today.

The incident in Britain is a „human tragedy“ and must have consequences. Vietnam therefore appeals to the countries in the region to step up cooperation in the fight against trafficking.

The British police said yesterday that they believe that the bodies found in a refrigerated truck are Vietnamese citizens. The identification is not yet complete.

The bodies of 31 men and eight women had been discovered in a truck refrigerated container at night on October 23 in an industrial area east of London. The official cause of death has not been reported so far.
