In the fight against the corona virus, the Greek government has ordered a lockdown for the cities of Thessaloniki, Larisa and Rodopi in central and northern Greece. As with the outbreak of the pandemic in the spring, Greece must take measures tougher and faster than other countries to prevent the worst and ease pressure on the health system, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in Athens today.

The measures are similar to those in Germany. For example, children should continue to attend school, but gatherings are prohibited and restaurants must remain closed.

Compared to other European countries, Greece has so far been relatively weakly affected by the corona virus, but the numbers have skyrocketed in recent weeks. For the first time this week, more than 1,500 new coronavirus cases were recorded in Greece within 24 hours. The country with its around eleven million inhabitants has had a good 34,000 cases of infection and 603 deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Bulgaria is also tightening its rules

Bulgaria is also restricting public life for two weeks for the time being due to the sharp rise in new infections. High schools and universities must now move to distance learning. Sports events can only be organized without an audience. In night clubs such as discos and bars, the interiors must be kept closed.

In the EU country with a population of 6.9 million people, a high was registered today with 2,760 new coronavirus infections. 25,105 people are currently infected with the coronavirus. A week ago it was 14,689.
