In Europe, between 2018 and 2020, 18,292 unaccompanied refugee children and adolescents who were in state care were reported missing. The broadcaster RBB reported yesterday, citing a joint data analysis with the Guardian and the Dutch broadcaster VPRO, among others. Most of the missing minors were from Morocco, Algeria and Eritrea.

According to RBB, the Europe-wide analysis of the research network reveals significant differences in national statistics: France, Denmark and Romania do not collect any data on unaccompanied refugee children, Bulgaria does not differentiate between accompanied and unaccompanied minors.
