After the appearance of further coronavirus cases in the overcrowded refugee camps in Bangladesh, around 15,000 residents have been quarantined. So far, 29 Rohingya refugees in the camps of the Cox’s Bazar district have tested positive, it said yesterday. They were isolated in specially designed treatment centers, and their families and contacts were no longer allowed to leave their homes.

There should be no sick people in critical condition, the majority hardly show any symptoms. Most of the infected live in Kutupalong, the largest camp with 600,000 inhabitants. There are a total of 34 camps in Cox’s Bazar, which together are considered the largest refugee camp in the world. Persecuted Muslims from neighboring Myanmar have lived in them under devastating conditions in tents or bamboo barracks since 2017.
