Now, pediatric lycopers have answered: Such blanket doubts without evidence are dubious.
In the debate on the limits for air pollutants, pediatric lung specialists have moved away from a group of lung specialists who had criticized the applicable limits. The Verband der Kinderlungenärzte (Association of Pediatric Lung Diseases) has now issued a statement on the health hazards caused by the pollutants.
The adverse health effects are documented „in numerous scientific papers,“ said the board of the Society for Pediatric Pulmonology (GPP). The association therefore supports the World Health Organization (WHO) threshold recommendations and similar positions from other associations.
Clear criticism of critics
„Questioning scientific statements in a blanket fashion without providing any evidence is dubious,“ states the statement. „Anyone who sows public doubts about the harmful potential of air pollutants without citing scientific work violates the principles of medical and scientific action.“
In the discussion of the children’s Lung doctors also comes in the health care too short: the worthy of protection particularly vulnerable groups are often not mentioned. In addition to children and adolescents, these include the pregnant, the elderly and the patients with chronic lung diseases.
