The Cabinet allocates 10 million euros for students in secondary vocational education (MBO) who are delayed due to their work. Young people who become ill or pregnant during their education and students with a disability can claim this.
Currently, MBO students who, for example, are unable to finish the academic year due to illness, still have to pay school fees. These costs will be covered by the fund in the future, as stated in a legislative proposal by Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven of Education.
„In higher education, these kinds of schemes were very self-evident, which was not the case in MBO for unexplained reasons, and I want to arrange that right now“, according to the minister in the AD.
MBO students can only use the fund if they are no longer entitled to student finance, a student loan or an additional scholarship.
The law also provides that MBO students will be officially named as students. As a result, they are also entitled to a reimbursement if they are in the student council. A fund already existed for college students and students at the university.
